November 30: This Day in Music History

Every day is an important one in music and so is every event. Here are some of the most interesting ones of the lot that went down on November 30th.

This day in 1969 marked the beginning of The Rolling Stones’ North American concert tour. The tour included a 17 days performance at the First Annual West Palm Beach International Music and Arts Festival in West Palm Beach, Florida. Rock critics Robert Christgau and Dave Marsh had different opinions about the concert. Christgau termed it as being a ‘mythic tour’ while Dave called it a ‘benchmark of an era.’

On November 30th 1985, musical duo Wham! Soared to the No.1 spot on the U.K singles chart with their track I’m Your Man. This track is Wham!’s third track to top the U.K. charts and the first to hit the No.3 position on the U.S. singles chart.

On this day in 2002, the probate records of the High Court stated that The Beatles’ member George Harrison left a fortune of £99 million in a trust fund to his son Dhani and his wife of 23 years, Olivia Harrison. In the act he is said to have deprived the taxman an amount of £40 million. Harrison’s mansion located near Henley-on-Thames is worth an estimated £15 million.

On November 30th 2003, New York City officially renamed one of its blocks on the East 2nd Street Joey Ramone Place. The place was named in honor of Joey Ramone, who lived on this block along with his group member Dee Dee Ramone. This place is located near the famous music nightclub CBGB. CBGB is where The Ramones performed their initial musical acts.

This day celebrates the birth of musician Billy Idol who was born in 1955. Also celebrating his birthday on November 30th is Clay Aiken who was born in 1978. Keep tuning in for more!
