This day in 1978 witnessed the success of Rod Stewart’s Da Ya Think I’m Sexy as it soared to the No.1 spot on the U.K singles’ chart. Da Ya Think I’m Sexy, from Stewart’s ninth album Blondes Have More Fun, was his fifth single to top the U.K. singles’ chart. This song was a hit in the U.S. and Australia as well.
On December 2nd 1979, You Don’t Bring Me Flowers by Neil Diamond and Barbra Streisand soared to the No.1 position on the U.S. singles’ chart. The song was originally put together by Gary Guthrie, WAKY-AM radio station’s engineer, who combined Streisand’s solo version from her 1978 album Songbird and Diamond’s solo version from his 1977 album I’m Glad You’re Here With Me Tonight. The song received a terrific response, so the radio station included the track as part of their playlist.
Neil Diamond soon got news of the song’s success and hence decided to convince Streisand to re-record the song as a duet. Streisand agreed and the song was re-recorded and released. Within just a few days of its release, the song hit the No.1 spot in the U.S. and the No.5 spot in the U.K.
