Some events in history are truly interesting and when it’s about music, we literally have to pick out events from hundreds that have gone down over the years. Here’s our pick of events that went down on December 6th!
This day in 1961 witnessed the meeting of The Beatles band members, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Pete Best with Brian Epstein in order to talk about his offer to be their manager. Epstein had stipulated for a 25% commission, every week, from their gross fees. He assured them that he would organize their show bookings in a better manner and also promised them of more esteemed bookings that would go even further than the area of Liverpool.
Epstein guaranteed that he would have the band play for more than £15, excluding the occasional lunchtime gigs at the Cavern. For these gigs, Epstein promised to increase their fees to £10. John Lennon, being the leader of the group, considered the proposal and accepted it on behalf of The Beatles.
On December 6th 1975, Rev. Charles Boykin, pastor at the Lakewood Baptist Church, in Tallahassee, Florida, along with other church officials destroyed records by Elton John and The Rolling Stones, by tossing them into the fire. Boykin labeled the records ‘sinful.’ This reaction was instigated by a survey that declared that out of 1,000 unmarried women who had babies 984 got pregnant as they had sex, listening to rock music.
This day in 1962 witnessed the recording of Bob Dylan’s A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall that was taped at the Columbia Records Studio A in New York. Written by Bob Dylan, this song was part of his second album The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan.
This day celebrates the birth of heavy metal guitarist Randy Rhoads who was born in 1956.
Also celebrating his birthday on December 6th is British musician Ben Watt who was born in 1962.
