This day in 1961 witnessed the performance by the famous band The Beatles as they played at the Cavern Club, Liverpool. The Beatles performed for four shows, two of which were during lunchtime while two were at night. Also present during that night’s performance was Mike Smith from Decca Records. Smith had attended the show with the intention of making a contractual offer to The Beatles.
On December 13th 1999, pop music magazine Smash Hits published the winners of its readers’ poll. The list included Best Band, Best Album and Best Single won by Backstreet Boys, Robbie Williams was voted Best Male Singer, while Britney Spears was voted Best Female Singer, Best New Band was S Club 7 and Spice Girls were voted as the Worst Group.
This day in 1966 witnessed Jimi Hendrix’s first appearance on the famous British pop music television program ‘Ready Steady Go!’ that was aired on ITV every Friday from 1963 through 1966. Also appearing during this episode was Marc Bolan. This day also marks the recording of Foxy Lady by The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Foxy Lady was a special song in Hendrix’s career and has been placed at No.153 on Rolling Stone magazine’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list.
December 13th 1986 saw The Way It Is by Bruce Hornsby and The Range soar to the No.1 spot on the U.S. singles’ chart. The Way It Is stood at No.15 in the U.K.
