This day in 1961 witnessed The Button Down Mind Strikes Back! By Bob Newhart, soar to the No.1 spot on the U.S. album chart. The 1960 release of Newhart’s live album The Button Down Mind of Bob Newhart won Grammy Awards for Best New Artist as well as Album of the Year.
This day in 1963 marks the day Charlie Watts joined The Rolling Stones. Watts was originally a trained graphic designer. He quit his day job to join the British R&B band Blues Incorporated, led by Alexis Korner. Watts later left Blues Incorporated and joined The Rolling Stones.
This day in 1976 witnessed Bohemian Rhapsody, by Queen, soar to the No.1 spot on the U.K. singles’ chart. It stayed at the top of the chart for nine weeks and sold over a million copies. After Freddie Mercury’s death, in the year 1991, the track once again peaked at No.1. The song ultimately became U.K.’s third best-selling single ever.
This day celebrates the birth of Led Zeppelin’s founder and guitarist Jimmy Page, who was born in 1944. Led Zeppelin achieved great success with its 1971 album, Led Zeppelin IV, that featured the hit track Stairway To Heaven, as the album sold more than 37 million records. After Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Page founded the rock band, The Honeydrippers. The Honeydrippers’ Sea Of Love hit the No.3 spot on the U.S. singles’ chart in 1984. In the 60’s Jimmy Page was a session guitarist and played for Them’s Here Comes The Night, Lulu’s Shout and The Who’s Can’t Explain.
