On this day in 1966 David Bowie changed his surname from Jones to Bowie as he didn’t want people confusing him with The Monkees’ Davy Jones. This change took place just before the release of Bowie’s single Can’t Help Thinking About Me. Later on, when Bowie was asked as to why he chose the name “Bowie”, he said that he had a liking for “that big American bear-killin’ knife.”

This day celebrates the birth of songwriter, producer and one of the most influential figures in R&B music, Allen Toussaint, who was born in 1938. Toussaint has worked with some of the most talented musicians such as Lee Dorsey, Paul Simon, Joe Cocker, The Band and Neville Brothers. He was 77 years old, when he died of a heart attack on November 10th 2015, after a concert performance at the Teatro Lara on Calle Corredera Baja de San Pablo in Madrid
