November 20: This Day in Music History

Each new day brings us something new in the world of music and November 20th too has been a date that has brought us several happenings across the years. Here are a few important ones.

This day in 1991 witnessed the announcement made by the famous English rock band, The Rolling Stones, which mentioned that the band had signed a £20 million worth contract with Virgin Records. The contract entailed that the band record three albums over a period of six years.

On this day in 2007, Thom Yorke, the lead singer from the rock band Radiohead, accepted the fact that he too, like thousand other music aficionados, downloaded the band’s album In Rainbows, for free. In Rainbows is the band’s seventh studio album and it was released with a pay-what-you-want (PWYW) download option.

This day is 1984 is rather special as it stood witness, along with thousands of fans, to the unveiling of Michael Jackson’s Hollywood Walk of Fame Star. The unveiling was held before Mann’s Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles, California. MJ’s star was the 1,793rd star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

On November 20th 1961, the celebrated singer, Bob Dylan began recording his self-named debut album at Columbia Recording Studios in New York. The album was recorded over a period of two days; however, it was released in the month of March in the following year.

This day celebrates the birth of Joe Walsh who was born in 1947. Walsh is a talented multi-instrumentalist and stands proudly at No. 54 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.

Also celebrating his birthday on November 20th is musician Jared Followill who was born in 1986. Followill is the backing vocalist and bass guitarist with the group Kings Of Leon.
