On this day in 1960, Elvis Presley’s Are You Lonesome Tonight soared to the No.1 spot on the US singles chart. It peaked at No.1 for six weeks in a row. This was the King of Rock n’ Roll’s third single to be at the top of the US chart. The lyrics of the track have been inspired by Jacques speech in William Shakespeare’s play As You Like It.
In 1970, Welsh singer Dave Edmunds hit the No.1 spot on the U.K. singles chart with I Hear You Knocking. This track was Edmund’s version of the hit song by Smiley Lewis in 1955. The famous rock band Sex Pistols performed on November 28th 1975 at Queen Elizabeth College in Kensington, London.
On this day in 1992, Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You soared to the No.1 spot on the US singles chart. This chart buster stayed on the top of the charts for 14 whole weeks. Written by Dolly Parton, the song features in the film The Bodyguard soundtrack.
This day celebrates the birth of Pearl Jam drummer, Matt Cameron, who was born in San Diego, California, in 1962.
Also celebrated his birthday on November 28th is singer and songwriter, Randy Newman who was born in 1943. Newman has been inducted in the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as well.
