Across the years, December 10th has proved to be a date that has been no less interesting than any other in the history of music. Therefore, it was only natural that we brought you the best of events that have gone down on this day. Here we go!

This day in 1967 witnessed the sad demise of singer Otis Redding who died in a plane crash. Redding was only 26 years old at the time of his death. He was travelling along with The Bar-Kays’ musical group members, Jimmy King, Phalin Jones, Ron Caldwell, Carl Cunningham and Ben Cauley, when the plane dived and crashed into the icy cold waters of Lake Monoma, located near Madison in Wisconsin. Ben Cauley, the band’s trumpet player, was the only survivor of the crash. Just a day before the plane crash, on 9th December, Redding, along with his band appeared on the Upbeat TV Show that was shot in Cleveland, Ohio.

This day in 1998 witnessed the auction of a 1963 recording of The Beatles’ concert for £25,300 ($41,500). At the time of the concert, the chief technician Tom Mellor, of Gaumont Theatre, Bournemouth, taped the band’s 10-song concert. This concert was just one of the six successive nights’ shows, during which The Beatles had performed.

On December 10th 2007, Led Zeppelin performed their first gig in almost 2 decades at the O2 arena in London. The show featured the band’s original members Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Robert Plant. The late drummer John Bonham’s son, Jason Bonham, also joined the band on stage. There were 18,000 tickets available for the concert, but the applicants for the tickets were more than a million.

This day celebrates the birth of The White Stripes’ band drummer, Meg White, who was born in 1974. Also celebrating his birthday on December 10th is Scottish-Belgian musician Brian Molko, who was born in 1972.
