This day in 1969 witnessed the release of Led Zeppelin’s eponymous studio album, in the U.K. This debut album was recorded at London’s Olympic Studios and was recorded within a stipulated time of 36 hours. The cost of recording the album was only $2,700. A large number of the album’s tracks were recorded live at the studio and didn’t have many overdubs.
Being inducted into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame is a prestigious honor. The new inductees are often honored by being invited to a ceremonial dinner. On this day in 1993, Van Morrison was invited to dine at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; however, the six time Grammy Award winning Northern Irish singer did not attend the dinner, making him the first living inductee to do so.
This day in 2003 witnessed the sad demise of Maurice Gibb, who was part of the commercially successful Bee Gees group. Gibb was 53 years old when he died of a heart attack during an abdominal surgery, in Miami Hospital, Florida. In 1969 Gibb married the famous Scottish singer and television personality, Lulu, for four years. In the year 2002 Maurice Gibb, along with brothers Barry Gibb and Robin Gibb, was made a Commander of the British Empire (CBE). The band, formed by the union of these three brothers was a success and released more than 20 albums with a number of them going to No.1. Most of the band’s singles too hit the No.1 spot of the charts.
On January 12th 2009, a full frontal nude photograph of the celebrated singer Madonna fetched an amount of $37,500. The picture was actually taken in the year 1979, when Madonna, then known as Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone, was only 20 years old. At the time, she was a dancer in New York, just collecting money to survive.
